With increasing intensity in 2026, a horizon continues to expand in which art criticism is challenged by the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. From a Latin American and Caribbean perspective, an analytical intersection is proposed between the concept of the “technocene”, which designates an era in which technology not only accompanies human life but also structures and conditions it entirely, and the ethics of the image, positioning criticism as a space of resistance and reconfiguration. For AICA Regional Latin America and the Caribbean, art criticism faces a radical challenge: it is no longer enough to interpret works using traditional aesthetic categories; rather, it must interrogate the technological mediations that produce and distribute images, as emphasised in the cover article of the thirteenth multilingual edition of AICA Próxima. This thirteenth edition also includes extensive content on the milestones and activities organised during the first four months of 2026 by members of ten of the twelve sections that collaborate with the AICA Regional Secretariat.
AICA Próxima No 13: Crítica de arte regional en la era del Tecnoceno
Con especial intensidad este 2026 se expande continuamente un horizonte donde la crítica de arte se ve interpelada por la irrupción de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) y las tecnologías digitales. Desde una perspectiva latinoamericana y caribeña se propone un cruce analítico entre el concepto de “tecnoceno” que designa una era en la que la tecnología no solo acompaña la vida humana, sino que la estructura y condiciona en su totalidad, y la ética de la imagen, situando la crítica como un espacio de resistencia y reconfiguración. Para AICA Regional América Latina y el Caribe la crítica de arte se enfrenta a un desafío radical: ya no basta con interpretar obras desde categorías estéticas tradicionales, sino que debe interrogar las mediaciones tecnológicas que producen y distribuyen las imágenes como enfatiza el artículo de portada de la décimo tercera edición multilingüe de AICA Próxima. Esta décimo tercera edición incluye, también, amplios contenidos sobre los hitos y actividades organizadas durante el primer cuatrimestre del 2026 por los miembros de diez de las doce secciones que colaboran con la Secretaría Regional de AICA.
