AICA Próxima Quarterly No. 11: Criticism and Curatorship in the Visual Arts

September 12, 2025

The discourse of art criticism in the field of the visual arts has constantly evolved. Beyond the already established connection between criticism, aesthetics, and art history, the need to consider criticism in conjunction with curatorship in the work of organizing art exhibitions remains a constant debate among art scholars.

For AICA Regional Latin America and the Caribbean, this is a fundamental space to reflect on the practice of art criticism, its challenges, its usefulness, its specificity, and its relationship to the construction of knowledge in contemporary society, as evidenced by the cover article of the eleventh multilingual quarterly edition of AICA Próxima.

This eleventh edition also includes extensive content on the milestones and activities organized during the second quarter of 2025 by members of ten of the twelve sections comprising AICA Regional and how they have consistently forged ahead in the artistic and cultural sphere in their respective areas of influence. The contents of this new issue not only highlight regional production and critical thinking but also emphasize curatorship, curating, aesthetic research, and cultural management.
